My Spring Break At The Glover Home School
If you've been wondering why Beltway Blogroll has been silent since April 1, it's because I was on vacation. Actually, my wife, Kimberly, was on a much-deserved vacation with friends in Europe, so I had the great honor of playing Professor Danny at the Glover Home School for my spring break.
Teaching our 7-year-old son, Anthony, was a chore at times but mostly a blessing. My favorites were grammar and spelling, including proofreading sentences. One workbook even uses the editing symbols I learned in journalism school, so my son is learning what I do for a living. He called me at work one day last month to tell me that, but I didn't realize until I saw his book that he's using the actual techniques I employ daily. That was cool.
Anthony and our 5-year-old daughter, Elli, also gave me a violin lesson.
To the extent that our 2-year-old, Catie, will let her, Kimberly has been learning violion right along with the children as part of the Suzuki Method. At one point during practice last week, Anthony said he would "pay big money" to see me play violin, so I grabbed Mommy's violin and took a crack at "Variation A," known as "Mississippi Hot Dog" to the children.
Anthony owes me a dollar -- his idea of "big money."
I enjoyed my family time so much that I asked Kimberly if she would like to trade jobs with me. Alas, she really doesn't care much for technology in general and blogging in particular. So after sifting through e-mails and doing other post-vacation chores yesterday, I'm back at the keyboard today.
