ActBlue Names Executive Director

ActBlue, an online fundraising site popular with bloggers that has helped Democratic candidates and causes raise millions of dollars in recent years, has hired an executive director.

The site announced last week that Jonathan Zucker will start the job Saturday. He has been ActBlue's senior strategist since early 2005 and was promoted to chief operating officer in February. Zucker previously served as the national director of finance operations for the Democratic National Committee and held various jobs with the Democratic Leadership Council and Human Rights Campaign, among other organizations.

"We're headed toward raising $100 million for Democratic candidates and committees by the end of 2008," Benjamin Rahn, who has served as president since co-founding ActBlue in 2004 said in a release. "This extraordinary trajectory requires an extraordinary hand at the helm" and Zucker's "management and leadership are exactly what ActBlue needs in this next phase of its growth."

Rahn was named chairman of ActBlue's board, and will focus on strategy and continued political innovation instead of day-to-day management.

Zucker said ActBlue has revolutionized Democratic politics and added, "In 2008, we're going to build on our success by empowering 10,000 fundraisers, engaging 1 million donors and raising an unprecedented $100 million."
